I'm going to mess around with django, and build everything from the group up... and by everything, I probably mean nothing.

So, I've been using ubuntu 8.04 for about a week now.
My first impressions were very good. The installation issues I had with gutsy were no longer present (I did a full format re-install rather than an upgrade), and as far as I can tell everything else works out of the box. In addition the annoying blank screen on boot-up/boot-down is now display correctly. Also the flash context menu in firefox now seems to be created with gtk, which looks far better than what I had on gutsy. Compiz effects + the AWN dock are as usual very pretty - but that is all... a fairly useless but entertaining feature.
I have to be honest though and say I'm actually experiencing a few more crashes than with gutsy. Nautilus file browser windows sometimes go inactive for a bit (sometimes forever) when copying from usb drives, and have to be force shutdown. Also, Firefox dies every now and then, but it is version 3 beta 5, so it may be due to that. I'm curious why they didn't ship with the stable Firefox 2. At least an app crash doesn't seem to affect the rest of the system.
All in all, I'm quite pleased with the upgrade. Anyone thinking of giving Ubuntu a try should definitely do so, it couldn't be easier at the moment. I can do everything I need to that I could on a Windows machine, bar gaming (wine may do the trick I guess). Saying that, certain things still need to be done via the command line (like enabling playback of CSS dvds) which - while not a problem for me - will put certain people off.

I'm not quite sure what is going on here really, but I guess I will give it a try. This is not a personal blog, well I'd prefer if it weren't a blog at all, but I can't really seem to avoid that label considering the layout.
Anyway, I intend to use this site for 3 things:
1. Some development projects I've had in mind recently (if I can actually find the time to start doing some of them).
2. An online portfolio/CV type vibe.
3. Occasional (read sporadic/infrequent/rare) posts about tech stuff that has my interest at the time (ubuntu, mobile, psp, and some other jazz).
My hosting at the moment is a bit of a mess (if you've looked at the source you will see the wonderful iframe pointing to ge0fa5.com). I'll take care of that at some stage.
So let the posts trickle in...
